Nestled in the heart of the city, Victoria Gardens offers a haven not just for the nature lovers but for our furry friends too. This charming spot boasts an off-leash oval measuring approximately 5,000 sq meters, giving dogs a modest space to run around and play.

Tucked away in a peaceful setting, the oval buzzes with activity, especially on weekends. Mature trees cast comforting shade over benches dotted around the edges. It's easy to see why so many dog owners gravitate here, taking a breather and watching their dogs play and mingle with new pals.

The Friends of Victoria Gardens, a dedicated community group, play a pivotal role in maintaining the area's charm. Thanks to their efforts, the gardens exude a pristine beauty, complemented by 19th-century decorative features and seating that hint at a rich past. As you stroll through, the well-laid concrete pathways make it easy to navigate, whether you're on a leisurely walk or in pursuit of a frisky pup.

If you're one to enjoy a picnic, you're in good company. The gardens often play host to picnic-goers, basking in the sun and enjoying the outdoors. But a word to the wise—if your dog has a nose for nibbles, you might want to keep them close; those sandwich-snatching tendencies might just kick in!

Safety is usually a top concern for dog owners, and while the Victoria Gardens off-leash area isn't fully enclosed, its design offers some peace of mind. With the off-leash zone situated a good 40 meters away from the park's two entrances, there's a buffer for those playful chases. However, it's worth noting that one entrance is adjacent to the bustling High Street, so vigilance is key.

Dog Off-Leash Park Amenities

A Bit of History & Culture

At the very heart of Victoria Gardens is a profound respect for the land's ancestral roots. It is an honour for us to be on the Traditional Lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the East Kulin Nations.

Acquired by the Prahran Council in 1884 and formally opened a year later by Lady Lock. The captivating layout, a masterpiece of the famed landscaper William Sangster, mirrors his brilliance visible in places like Como House and Rippon Lea. Over 135 years later, the gardens stand tall, symbolising the unwavering commitment of the local community and Council to cherish and uphold its historical and social significance.
